The citizens of Sangamon County District 15 deserve a choice in 2018. Not only do they deserve a choice in candidates, but also a choice in approach to the important issues that come before the County Board. Zoning. Oversight of the management of county government. Economic development initiatives. And more. District 15 needs an active participant to represent their interests in county government. I'm ready to get to work to ensure that residents have an active role in county government and are well-informed on the issues.
As a business professional and an attorney, I know that it takes organization, research, and excellent communication skills to succed. It also takes outreach to a broad and diverse constituency like that of the 15th District. I know how to break down and analyze the issues, share them with you, and work together with stakeholders to ensure that the budget and management of county resources and the launching of new initiatives include input from voters like you. I started my legal career as an attorney for the Illinois General Assembly, where I drafted legislation in the Counties Code and other statutes relevant to local government, taxation, and financial regulation. I now serve as part of the senior management team for a small non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring effective legal representation for the public by providing quality continuing education for the legal profession.
I'm a long-time resident of Sangamon County. My husband, Shaun, and I both grew up in Springfield. We met at U.S. Grant Middle School, and we both graduated from Springfield High School. We've been married for 23 years. I attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and graduated cum laude with a B.A. in English with University Honors. I then went on to attend law school at Vermont Law School in South Royalton, VT while my husband attended culinary school at the New England Culinary Institute. Upon graduation from law school, we returned to Springfield to be closer to our families and to raise our own family in the community that we love.
Family is important to me. And so is this community. Shaun and I have instilled a strong work ethic and a strong commitment to community service in all three of our children, daughters Cameron and Madelyn, and son Ian. We have both volunteered with our childrens' schools in a variety of ways and have taken a particular interest in advocating for special education based on our own experiences.
If you ask those who know me best, they will tell you that I am a leader who rises to meet imposing challenges with an open mind, a willingness to listen, and a commitment to making tough decisions. I look forward to putting the value of all my experiences to good use as your next representative on the Sangamon County Board.
